Not all leads are equal. A business with 4 unanswered reviews, a website built in 2017, no Facebook presence, and a half-complete Google Business Profile is far more likely to buy your marketing services than one with 500 reviews and a polished Shopify store.
The Pain Score measures that gap automatically.
How it's calculated
GMapsScout scores each lead on a 0–10 scale using weighted signals:
- •Missing or outdated website — biggest pain signal for digital marketing agencies
- •Low review count — suggests they're not actively generating new business
- •Unanswered reviews — shows they're not managing their reputation
- •Incomplete GBP profile — missing hours, photos, categories, or description
- •No social media presence — Facebook/Instagram/LinkedIn all absent
- •Old copyright date on website — site hasn't been touched in years
Using Pain Score in practice
Sort your lead list by Pain Score descending. The leads at the top are businesses that are clearly struggling with their online presence — exactly the conversations where your pitch lands hardest.
A plumber with a Pain Score of 9.2 needs your help. Lead with that. "I noticed your Google reviews have gone unanswered for 6 months..." is far more effective than a generic pitch.
